How it works

  1. Add your people

Their start date, how they are paid, and the leave they already have.

  2. Make payslips

Choose the month or the week, enter hours if they are paid by the hour, and print or save the payslip as a PDF.

  3. Get your SARS reports

Check the EMP201, EMP501 and IRP5 reports, then submit them on eFiling yourself or import the e@syFile file.

Pay

Monthly salaries, or hourly pay weekly or monthly, with overtime, Sunday, and public holiday rates from the Basic Conditions of Employment Act. PAYE, UIF, and SDL come from the tax year on file.

Leave

Annual, sick, and family responsibility leave from each person's start date, including the days hourly staff work.

Advances and expenses

Record an advance with the date they agreed in writing and recover it from later payslips. Pay back what they spent for the business, untaxed.

You stay in control of your SARS filing

WageZA prepares your EMP201, EMP501 and IRP5s as printable reports and an e@syFile file. You or your accountant check them and submit them on eFiling yourself, or import the file into SARS's e@syFile Employer program, so no one else needs access to your SARS profile. They are not submitted to SARS by WageZA.

Payroll questions

When is the EMP201 due?

By the 7th of the next month. If the 7th falls on a weekend or public holiday, it is due on the last business day before it. Paying late costs a 10% penalty plus interest.

When do I need to register for PAYE?

As soon as someone you employ earns more than the tax threshold, which is R99 000 a year for people under 65 in the 2026/2027 tax year. Register as an employer with SARS within 21 business days.

Who pays UIF?

Anyone who works more than 24 hours a month for you. You deduct 1% of their pay and add 1% yourself, on pay up to R17 712 a month.

Do I pay SDL?

Only once your total payroll is expected to be more than R500 000 a year. Then you pay 1% of payroll yourself. Nothing is deducted from your staff.

What does "draft" mean?

WageZA works out the figures and gives you the files. You check them and submit them on SARS eFiling yourself. WageZA never logs in to SARS for you.
